Every year a group of engineering students from Brigham Young are challenged to create a product which meets the company’s specific needs.
The Capstone program is put on every year at BYU.
This year one of the teams is being sponsored by Blackstone. The Blackstone Group L.P. is a multinational private equity, investment banking, alternative asset management and financial services corporation based in New York City.
They have challenged one of the engineering student teams to create an apparatus that will decrease the number of people dying from prescription drug abuse.
The Med Vault is a tamper proof prescription drug vault. It is setup to dispense the prescribed dose of the drug at the prescribed times. If the patient tries to break in or tamper with the machine this activity is recorded.
I wonder if the plan is to dispense this device with every oral pain prescription?
Those with a history of drug abuse and memory problems may do well with this gizmo.
When we are seeing that over 30,000 people die each year from oral pain medications has to be a great idea no matter what the cost.
I am all for this little machine and hope the public embraces it, but more than that I say get off these dangerous medications and use a safe and effective alternative.
